It feels like everyday there is a new headline telling us that AI is about to take our jobs and replace most of the workforce.
It’s designing logos
It’s writing emails
It’s creating website layouts
So it’s only natural to wonder: is my job in jeopardy?
The short answer? Most likely not.
The long answer? Let’s get into it now:
AI isn’t taking jobs, it’s taking tasks
AI is making our lives a lot easier by taking certain tasks and shortening them, saving us time. It is a very good tool at completing specific, repeatable tasks. It can also analyse data, draft content, summarise reports and respond instantly to your questions.
However there is a large distance between AI and humans. It is not good at being human. Jobs aren't just consistent with repetitive and similar tasks; they require judgement, creativity and emotional intelligence and overall are a mixture of both. So, yes AI can support you however it cannot be you.
The risk isn’t AI, it’s…
Resistance to change. The sectors that are most vulnerable aren’t always the ones in AI saturated roles, they just refuse to adapt and grow with the tool. AI can be used as ‘help’ however it doesn't create ideas from scratch. Even so humans still hold a clear advantage such as:
A better asked question
A more useful question to ask is ‘how do I increase my value within my job’. The main component is simple: use it to support your thinking, not replace it. Let AI handle the repetitive tasks eg) drafts, summaries, and research. Then you can focus on the work that actually matters, especially the ones with the shorter deadlines. You could also become more efficient by learning how to ask better questions to refine what AI gives you. At the same time, improve on the human skills AI can’t replicate. These could be communication, empathy, leadership and common sense. AI doesn’t make you less valuable. It makes you faster and more effective.
Overall, AI isn’t the end of your career. It's just a shift in how we work. The real winners will be those who stay curious, learn how to use it properly. AI isn’t a threat, it’s just a tool that can make you better at what you already do.
